Welcome to the website of the Department of ‘Communicable Disease Surveillance & Control’ of the Ministry of Health, Sultanate of Oman. The department, functioning under the Directorate General of Health Affairs, was one of the first to be established in the Ministry of Health addressing thecontrol of communicable diseases in the Sultanate which was then considered as a high priority. This year the department marks the 20th anniversary of launching the formal communicable disease surveillance system in March 1991 in Oman.
The contents on this site have been assembled according to the departmental sections as: Epidemiological surveillance, Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI), Tuberculosis Control, HIV/AIDS/STI control, Infection Prevention and Control and Port Health (previously referredto as quarantine section). Tuberculosis control is a programme under surveillance section and CDC is a semiautonomous section for screening of expatriate workers.
The site contents have been organized into two components viz. for health care professionals and for the community on the premise of their perceived needs. As we progress further in the achievements, we will continue in ourmission to control, eliminate or eradicate the priority communicable diseases in the Sultanate of Oman.
